To successfully connect your Nest Doorbell to your WiFi network, please ensure that you enter the correct password. This is the same password you use to sign in to your Google Nest account. If an incorrect password is entered, connection to the network may not be possible.
2. When your Doorbell isn’t in range of WiFi
Having trouble connecting your Nest Doorbell to your WiFi network? It may be due to the distance between your 2.4GHz wireless router and your Nest Doorbell.
Routers broadcasting in both frequencies can limit the range of the 2.4GHz frequency to about 300 feet, causing connectivity issues. However, with a 5GHz frequency, your Nest Doorbell can reach greater distances.
3. Low bandwidth connection
One possible reason for this issue is a low bandwidth connection. Bandwidth is the data transfer capacity of a network and is measured in bits per second (Bps). It’s important to note that bandwidth is different from network speed. If your network doesn’t have enough bandwidth to meet the needs of your doorbell, it won’t be able to connect.
Having multiple wireless devices all connected to the same frequency can also cause this problem. If other devices are causing interference, your doorbell may not be able to connect properly.
4. Wrong WiFi Bands
Are you having trouble with your Nest Doorbell staying connected to your WiFi network? Unlike conventional routers, changing the band or channel won’t fix the issue. The Nest Doorbell requires a 2.4 GHz signal to stay connected.
While 2.4 GHz may have less range and be slower than its 5 GHz counterpart, the speed difference between the two is minimal. So, don’t let slow WiFi speeds hold you back from keeping your Nest Doorbell connected.
Troubleshoot your Google Nest Doorbell not connecting to WiFi
1. Check your password
To ensure your Nest Doorbell connects to WiFi seamlessly, it’s important to make sure the password in Google Home matches the WiFi password.
Follow these steps to check the password:
- Open the Google Home app
- Click on “Menu”
- Go to “Devices”
- Select your device’s name
- Choose “Settings”
- You can now set or change the password
It’s crucial to have the correct password, otherwise, your Google Home won’t be able to connect to the internet. This is a common issue if you change your WiFi password but forget to update it on all of your devices.
Make sure to update all devices connected to WiFi with the new password. This will ensure your devices can connect to the WiFi without any issues.
2. Make sure you’re on the 2.4GHz band
To ensure optimal connectivity, it is important to be on the 2.4GHz band instead of the 5GHz band. Here’s how you can switch between bands:
- Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap on Wi-Fi and locate your network name.
- Tap the (i) button next to your network name.
- Select “Change Band” and choose 2.4GHz from the list.
3. Minimize your bandwidth consumption
Bandwidth refers to the amount of data that can be transferred in bits per second (Bps). It’s essential to distinguish the difference between bandwidth and network speed, which is the rate at which data travels across your router.
When multiple devices are connected to a single frequency, the available bandwidth can decrease, potentially leading to connection issues for your doorbell.
To troubleshoot, try shutting down other devices and determining if your doorbell connects to your Wi-Fi network. If it does, you may be utilizing too much bandwidth with your current plan.
To optimize your doorbell’s performance, contact your internet service provider and consider upgrading your plan to provide sufficient bandwidth for all of your devices.
4. Resetting your Google Nest Doorbell
To reset your camera, simply press and hold the button located on the back for approximately 10 seconds until a beep is heard. A blue LED light will indicate that the reset has been successful.
How to reset Google Nest Doorbell?
Here is how you can reset your Google Nest Doorbell:
Step 1: Disconnect the Doorbell from the Power
To reset your Google Nest doorbell, you will need to first disconnect it from power. Locate the power source for your doorbell and switch it off. You can also remove the doorbell from its wall mount to access the power source. This step is important as it ensures that the doorbell is completely powered off and eliminates the risk of electrical shock when handling it.
Step 2: Restart the Doorbell
Once you have disconnected the doorbell from power, press and hold down the doorbell button for at least 15 seconds. This will force the doorbell to restart and clear any temporary glitches that may have caused your doorbell to malfunction.
Step 3: Reconnect the Doorbell to the Power
After restarting the doorbell, you can now reconnect it to power. This involves plugging it back into its power source or reattaching it to its wall mount. The doorbell should power on automatically once it is reconnected to power.
Step 4: Reconnect the Doorbell to Wi-Fi
The final step involves reconnecting the doorbell to your home Wi-Fi network. Open the Google Nest app on your smartphone or tablet and select your doorbell’s name. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your doorbell to Wi-Fi. You may need to enter your Wi-Fi network password during this process. Once the doorbell is successfully connected to Wi-Fi, you can test it by pressing the doorbell button.
